Happy holiday season, and we hope you'll help another experience the same. At this time, we still have Pepper, Juice, Jax, Fergus, and Coco – and also Davey. Davey is a brown/black Corgi mix who is about 1 year old and weighs 25lbs. He hasn't shown any signs of being dog-aggressive. He will be available as soon as he is neutered. I've mentioned before growing up with Corgis, and what great pets they make. To this day, my brother still raises them, though he doesn't do rescue, preferring responsible breeders. (Breeders are not for me, though – or for my sister.) I would snap Davey up myself but I did recently adopt my third and, most likely, last, pup (aging happens)...

If you have ideas how to get the word out about our animals, please let me/the newspaper know, because it supposedly is shutting down after the Dec. 28th issue. It's unbearable, for many reasons. What's a small town without a small-town newspaper?

And though adoption and dogs without homes are no joking matters, here's some silliness (somewhat edited) for your holiday season, from a site called "Love to Know," by Mary White:

• Wishing you the ulti-mutt holiday season!

• We Shih Tzu a Merry Christmas!

• Yappy howl-idays!

• Feliz Navi-dog!

• Here comes Santa-paws!

• Unleash the holiday spirit!

Q. What did the pupper wear Christmas caroling? Christmas collars, of course!

Q. What makes the best last-minute holiday surprise? Stocking puppers!

Q. What kind of dog does Ebenezer Scrooge have? A bah hum-pug!

Q. What do you call a litter of puppies born at the North Pole? Santa's little yelpers!

And from "Scary Mommy" site (Patricia Grislaf)....

Which hand is best to light the menorah with? Neither, it's best to light it with a candle.

How can you recognize a Hanukkah hippie? He's the one with his hair in dreidel-locks.

What do you call a speck that falls into the latke pan? An unidentified frying object.

So happy holidays, happy challah days – Whatever you celebrate, add a dog in and the season will be even brighter.
