Recently a concerned citizen came to the Fountain Valley News to report that the American Flag at the Fountain Valley Veterans Memorial has been flying without lighting at night for a few months. He said he had approached various city personnel to try to get the situation rectified.

"I've exhausted myself trying to get them to honor our veterans correctly, and honor our flag correctly," he said. "Seeing that flag in the dark every night irritates me."

News staff verified that the flag was unlit at night, as pictured here on Dec. 13, and contacted John Trylch, the Administrative Services director for the city of Fountain. He promised to look into the matter, and reported back Dec. 19:

"I spoke with our Parks Department, who went out to inspect the lights. They will repair any that are not working and ensure that flag is properly lit."

It was still unlit as of dusk on Dec. 26.
